Breathwork? What is all this fuss about breathing? Isn’t it just something we do naturally without having to think or worry about it? A few common questions I hear around all of the breathwork teachings we are seeing pop up everywhere this day & age.

However, Other common phrases I’m hearing both with people I work 1:1 with and in classes is “wow I did not know my breath was this powerful”, “I literally felt all of the stress just leave my body”, “I haven’t felt this calm & clear in SO long!” (and much, much more!)

So really, what is all the fuss about? Is it really a human superpower?!

Breath – the first thing we do when we enter this world, and the last thing we do when we leave this world. We could live without our limbs, we could live without our voice and heck, even without some organs, but the one thing we cannot live without, is our breath.

With the stressors of life, the constant push for more and more, increase in the pressure of live etc, it’s no wonder humans have forgotten (and unlearnt) how to breathe properly. We have become stuck in high stress living that has hindered our ability and performance as humans.

However, with the rise in scientifically backed studies and teachings, we are (re)learning how to breathe properly to increase our ability and performance, thus improving the way in which we live. Our breath is undoubtedly the gateway between where we are stuck and where we want to be.

Through different Breath techniques we are able to destress our body, still the mind and open our heart to live a more balanced and easeful life.

(Some) Benefits:

Reduced stress and anxiety

Release tightness and stress in the body

Still the mind – find mental clarity – increase awareness and productivity

Heal stored trauma and emotions

Feel a deeper sense of love and connection

Improve creativity, increase joy & happiness

We can even enter alter our states of consciousness

Here are a couple of breath techniques that you can do each day:

~ With all breath techniques, you can place your hands on your body or the floor (if you are sitting) to ground into the moment.

~ With all breath techniques, the aim is to release all tension in your body and let yourself settle in the moment

FEELING STRESSED OR ANXIOUS?

~ Breathe in & out through your nose, into your belly (you can place a hand on your belly to help)

~ Inhale for 4 seconds, pause, exhale for 8 seconds

~ Repeat 10-15 times or until the feeling has eased

BEAT THE AFTERNOON SLUMP:

~ Breathe in & out through your nose -

~ Double short inhale (into your belly, into your chest), double short exhale

~ Put on a timer or your fave song and stay for about 2 minutes or until you feel your energy increase

IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP:

~ Breathe in & out through your nose, into your belly (you can place a hand on your belly to help)

~ Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 11 seconds

~ Repeat until you drift off to dreamworld

These are just a few of many different techniques and ways to tap into the innate power and wisdom that lives within the body.

If you haven’t been to a class or a session then I highly recommend giving it ago, and if you have, well, you know already just what I mean!

Peace, Love & BREATH!
